Electric Line Technician
The Town of Smithfield is seeking a skilled and dedicated Electric Line Technician to join our team. This position involves technical work in the construction, maintenance, and repair of electrical power lines and distribution systems.
Key Responsibilities:
- Install, maintain, and repair electrical power lines and distribution systems.
- Set and align power poles, string primary and secondary lines, and attach wires to insulators and cross arms.
- Install, repair, and replace cross arms, leg supports, insulators, lightning arresters, circuit breakers, and fuse cutouts.
- Maintain and repair the Town’s Street lighting system.
- Operate bucket trucks and other equipment such as backhoes for high-wire and underground work.
- Perform line taps, wire connections, and transformer installations.
- Transfer lines and equipment from old poles to new ones.
- Investigate and resolve power outages, including emergency repairs during service disruptions.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to perform heavy work, including lifting up to 100 pounds occasionally, 50 pounds frequently, and 20 pounds constantly.
Qualifications & Requirements:
- Valid North Carolina Commercial Driver’s License (CDL).
- Second-Class Power Line Technician Certificate.
- Successful candidates must pass a drug screening, physical exam, and driver’s license verification.
Starting Annual Salary: $57,808.00

Summer Camp Counselors
KEY QUALIFICATIONS:
Individuals must be highly motivated, creative, energetic, organized, have leadership skills, and be able to communicate effectively with administrative staff, co-workers, children and parents. They must have the ability to solve problems as they arise and must possess basic knowledge of a variety of age appropriate activities or skills applicable to camp age range. Must be 18 years or older. Experience working with children in a camp or educational setting is preferred.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Camp counselors will plan and implement daily activities, oversee transitions to and from activities, and facilitate and participate in activities with campers. Camp counselors also support the administrative staff with daily operations, such as checking campers in and out, to ensure the camp runs smoothly and that all campers are having a good time in a safe and nurturing environment. Camp Counselors are expected to carry out job duties in a safe manner in accordance with all Town, department and regulatory policies and identify any unsafe situations and/or work hazards and report them to their supervisor. They are expected to maintain clean work and play areas, set-up and break-down equipment, and administer first aid as needed and properly document each incident.
Camp Counselors are required to actively participate in training and planning prior to the start of camp and are required to attend the first aid/CPR training that will be held on a TBD date in May.
Job Type: Seasonal/Temporary; Daily hourly schedule varies Monday-Friday between 7:30am-5:30pm based on program and staffing needs. Must be available for the full 8 weeks of camp, which is June 12 through August 11, 2023. Employee in this position will work less than 1,000 per year. Employee will not qualify for Town benefits.

Utility Line Mechanic

Police Officer I ($5,000 Sign on Bonus)

Performs responsible protective service work in the protection of life and property through enforcement of laws and ordinances involving an element of danger. Applicant must be a citizen of the United States, at least 21 years of age and have any combination of education and experience equivalent to graduation from high school. Completion of Basic Law Enforcement Training (BLET) is preferred. Fully qualified candidates may qualify for a Sign-on Bonus. Hours worked by rotating shifts.
