Part-Time Lifeguards


The Town of Smithfield is currently seeking motivated, safety-focused individuals to join our team as Part-Time Lifeguards. If you are a strong swimmer with a passion for public safety and enjoy working in a team-oriented environment, we encourage you to apply!


Position Overview


Lifeguards are responsible for ensuring the safety of all patrons by maintaining constant surveillance of the aquatic facility and responding quickly and effectively in emergency situations. This position requires strong decision-making skills, professionalism, and a commitment to public service.

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Monitor aquatic areas to ensure patron safety at all times 
  • Recognize and respond effectively to emergencies 
  • Enforce all facility rules, policies, and regulations 
  • Conduct daily inspections of the facility and report unsafe conditions or equipment 
  • Complete required records and reports accurately and timely 
  • Participate in regular in-service training sessions 
  • Maintain physical fitness (strength and endurance) necessary for lifeguarding duties 
  • Provide excellent customer service and demonstrate strong public relations skills 
  • Perform additional duties as assigned by supervisor 

Minimum Qualifications

  • American Red Cross Lifeguard Certification and First Aid 
  • American Red Cross CPR for the Professional Rescuer
    (Equivalent lifeguard certifications may be considered) 
  • Valid North Carolina Driver’s License 

Additional Requirements

  • Must successfully pass a drug screen, criminal background check, physical, and driver’s license check 

Work Schedule & Benefits

  • This is a temporary, part-time position 
  • Employees will work less than 1,000 hours per year and less than 30 hours per week
  • No Town benefits are provided with this position

Police Officer I ($61,214 annually)


This is a continuous posting; applications are processed and evaluated as they are received.

Performs responsible protective service work in the protection of life and property through enforcement of laws and ordinances involving an element of danger. Applicant must be a citizen of the United States, at least 21 years of age and have any combination of education and experience equivalent to graduation from high school. Completion of Basic Law Enforcement Training (BLET) is preferred. Hours worked by rotating shifts. 

 

Applicant will be required to complete a background investigation, CVSA examination, physical, drug screening exam and psychological examination.  One year State-required probationary status. Must have valid NC Driver’s License. Competitive salary and excellent benefits. Employee will be eligible for paid vacation, sick leave, paid holidays, insurance and other benefits.
